Kendrick Lamar Hanging Out at Freedom SKate Park in Ghana

Freedom Skate Park is the first of its kind, and it was built differently. Located in Ghana, Accra, Freedom Skate Park is the first of its kind. The Surf Ghana collective, a collective that uses the practice of extreme sports as a driver for diversity in education, social inclusion, and empowerment of the youth, made the most use of their online presence to solicit funding to give life to The Freedom Skatepark. With the helping hands of Vans, Off-white, Tony’s Chocolonely, AFD and, Virgil Abloh who made the logo, the first fully-functioning skateboard in Ghana was created.

Freedom Skatepark is a beautiful skatepark spanning 500 m2 in the heart of Accra, located at Shiashie in the East Legon vicinity. The design of Freedom Skatepark is a truly unique one including the Ghanaian Adinkra symbol “Fawohodie”, which represents independence, freedom and emancipation. This skatepark intends to soon become a home for the youth to truly and freely express themselves.
After releasing his fifth studio album, Kendrick Lamar travelled to Ghana and made a stop at Freedom Skate Park with his daughter. He spent the day with the skaters, locals and kids laying FIFA. He is not the first celebrity to make a stop in Freedom Skate Park, Chicago rapper, Chance The Rapper has also spent a day at the skate park during his visit. This trip was not only for relaxation as he initially went there to promote his newly released album and potentially shoot visually for one of the songs and he also had a Mr Morale and The Big Steppers party where he was seen mingling with Amaraee, a Ghanaian singer.
